BlueCat adds members to its TAB

By Security Asia Editors | Sep 1, 2010

SINGAPORE – BlueCat Network announced three new members of its newly-formed Technical Advisory Board (TAB). The TAB members are William (Bill) Crowell, Former Deputy Director of the National Security Agency (NSA); Bob Flores, Former CTO of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and John McFarlane the Former President of Sun Microsystems Software Division. The three new members join Ron Aitchison, the renowned DNS authority and author of the go-to DNS technology reference book, “Pro DNS and BIND.” Tasked with leveraging its vast government IT background, agency experience and DNS knowledge, the TAB will initially focus on driving BlueCat Networks’ IPAM and DNS/DHCP product development for government agencies worldwide.

BlueCat is incredibly proud to have assembled a who’s who of the IT Security, IPAM, DNS and DHCP worlds, and I fully expect the Technical Advisory Board to not only be instrumental in driving the development of BlueCat’s IPAM and DNS/DHCP solutions, but the entire future of the market,” said Michael Hyatt, cofounder and CEO, BlueCat Networks. “It is extremely exciting to consider what breakthroughs these experts can achieve together,” Hyatt continued. “The U.S. government has become BlueCat’s biggest customer over the last couple of years, and so the Board will initially leverage its vast government experience and technical knowledge to help BlueCat develop IPAM and DNS/DHCP solutions that are a perfect fit for U.S. government agencies.”

“BlueCat’s Technical Advisory Board is a formidable panel of expertise that will be leveraged by our worldwide customers including our significant and growing customer base in APAC. We also hope to replicate our U.S. government success with other government agencies in Asia Pacific and the Middle East,” added Dean Bell, vice president, APAC and MEA, BlueCat Networks.

BlueCat Networks’ physical and virtual appliances integrate with BlueCat Networks’ own Adonis DNS/DHCP appliances and Microsoft Windows DNS and DHCP to make it simple for administrators to fully integrate IP inventory tracking and allocation, along with DNS and DHCP management. Administrators can design networks with a simple conceptual view, then deploy and manage them across the organization. When managing DNS and DHCP, BlueCat Networks’ Proteus IPAM solution becomes “mission control”, offering full command, control and customization of configurations from a centralized and secure Web-based interface to make it simple to eliminate all IPAM problems.

When good backups go bad
Business transactions are faster and have a broader reach to more people in more countries than ever before. Businesses of all sizes can cast a global shadow by setting up a website and conducting business over the Internet. At the same time the volume of data is growing, so are the threats.
Does application security pay?
In the past, businesses confronted the threat of cyber attacks and data breaches primarily by building firewalls and other “perimeter defenses” around their networks, but the threat has continued to evolve, and more criminals are hacking into applications that are running on a plethora of new devices and environments, including cloud, mobile, and social media. Which begets the question: Is it still worthwhile investing in application security?
